September 2012

Ben Highfield

Ben (@BenHighfield), long time supporter and promoter of Movie Writing. He also makes great cupcakes. To say thank you, I made Ben my fan of the month for September.

I will also be reviewing Blues Brothers for Ben at some point, as he lent the DVD a while ago as (shamefully) I hadn’t seen it yet. Keep a look out for that one!

What is your favourite film?

Iron Man is my outright favourite film. I love Robert Downey Jr in this film and feel he plays millionaire play boy Tony Stark to perfection.

What is your least favourite film?

I would have to say Paranormal Activity. I hate scary films and the way I see it; any film that’s main aim is to stop you sleeping for the next week is pointless.

Who is your favourite actor/actress and what was their best film?

My favourite actor has to be Bill Nighy for his appearance as Quentin in The Boat that Rocked. I feel he played the character flawlessly and for me; he is the definition of cool in that film. I also loved him in Love Actually again for bringing such an original acting style to the film.

Who’s your favourite director?

I don’t have a favourite director as such but I think the way Submarine was directed by Richard Ayoade was utterly fantastic. I felt the whole film was alive with witty script writing as well as some fantastic camera work and the way it all hung together was brilliant. Because of this fantastic film I feel he would have to be one of my top directors.

Can you remember your first trip to the cinema, what did you see?

I have vague memories of going to the cinema with my mum and my sister on rainy days in the summer holidays, but the first film I specifically remember going to see was Monsters inc and remember loving it, and I still do today.

What was the last film you saw?

In the last week I have watched all eight of the Harry Potter films, to be perfectly honest they are nothing special but I find them an easy and enjoyable watch and I easily get addicted to series and rapidly become a social recluse.

What’s your guilty pleasure film?

I love all the films from the pixar animation studios (their short films are also awesome) but my guilty pleasure from them has to be Finding Nemo, I just can’t get enough of feel good films.

Thank you Ben for being September’s Fan of the Month; some brilliant answers there! Bill Nighy is the definition of cool. If you would like to appear as a future FotM then please contact me through the contact page.
